Essay# 4
Michael A.
Nick Hornby High Fidelity, book
Nick Hornby, the author of the book, High Fidelity taught us important concepts and experiences which might based on his own life. So in the book he related a story about a “rocker” called Rob, “the most deceitful man in the book.” He loves music and his crazy about his records. Actually the book is about music and how Rob compares most everything in a “top 5 list.” He started to be selfish by his relationships with Alison, Penny, and Jackie.
Alison Ashworth was Rob’s first break up in his life. She cheated on him when he was fifteen years old because he saw her kissing another guy. When Rob and Alison broke up they wanted to try new experiences like the first French kiss and touching each others. He wanted to have the experiences the other kids with the same age already. So, on the page 7 Rob said “at the fourth night of their relationship I turned up in the park and Alison was sitting on the bench with her arm around Kevin Banister.” Obviously, they were kissing each other, cheating on Rob. He felt so sad and disappointed. When he saw that he was vexed and his face became red. Surprisingly he forgot how to walk “without being aware in every single part of his body.” What to do and where to go, Rob said. Then on page 7 he said, “I didn’t want to fight; I didn’t want to sit there with the two of them and I didn’t want to go home either.” I think that is not what I would have done if I were him; I might would have left the scene to go to my house to listen music and maybe made a mosh-pit by myself. This experience left a mark on him. On page 9 Hornby writes, “But there still seems to be an element of that evening in everything that has happened to me since; all my other romantic stories seem to be a scrambled version of that first one. Of course, I have never had to take that long walk again, and my ears have not burned with quite the same fury.” This tells us an important event that left a mark in Rob’s life. It was his first experience in love hurts his heart making a little black mark in it.
Penny Hardwick was a "nice girl" and Rob’s second split up. She didn't let him touch and try anything risgue with her, so he decided to split her. By the time he had been growing up, his thoughts change to something little bit more mature; he was looking for something other than hands contact. He wanted "sex". As Nick Hornby tell us in the book, High Fidelity, that Rob was carried away by some of those ideas from the guys in his school, they said “Are you getting any?; Does she let you have any?; How much she let you have?; and so on.” This tells us that Rob was just trying to get everything he could and showing to his friends that he could, but when he realized he wouldn't “get any,” he gave up and finished with her. Days after, Rob learned that Penny went out with other guy called Chris Thompson. As on page 14 Rob said, “One day maybe three weeks after his last grapple with Penny, Thompson came roaring into our form room,” saying, “Oi, Fleming, you spastic. Guess who I knobbed last night?,” Rob knew that it wasn't nothing to feel proud of because he knew that was, “bad news.” He said. He felt like a mule, small, and very much younger than this “unpleasant, oversized, big mouthed moron.” Everyone knew that Thompson got whatever he wanted from whomever he saw, and this time it was Penny. Rob had been humiliated, assaulted, and surpassed. I think that he didn’t fell in that way because he knew it that was happen; he cares a lot about that the guys in his school say about it. Right after Penny left him, Rob try to take revenge, on page 13 he said, “I went out with a girl called Kim, who I knew for a fact had already been invaded, and who (I was correct in assuming) wouldn’t object to being invaded against him.” Rob’s mind was a little bit confused. As on page 14 Rob explain to us how he thought, he said, “I still couldn’t understand what had happened. How had this transformation in Penny been effected?; How had Penny gone from being a girl who wouldn’t do anything to a girl who would do everything there was to do?; Maybe it was best not to think about it too hard; I didn’t want to feel sorry for anybody else except me.” He didn’t understand how she changes a lot in a small time. He taught that she is a “pig,” so he decided left her, but he was remorseful to did it that.
Jackie Allen was Rob’s third experience of break up also a secret relationship. She was his friend Phil’s girlfriend. That’s why they keep their relationship in secret, they cheated on Phil. On page 16 Rob tells us a bit about Jackie’s relationship. He said, “We met in secret and phoned each other in secret and had sex in secret and said thinks like, ‘What are we going to do?’ in secret and talked about how nice it would be when we didn’t have to do things in secret anymore. I never really thought about whether that was true or not.” So one night Rob saw Phil very close to Jackie in a corner. Phil was visibly upset. Furthermore, the next day Jackie runs to Rob’s house to tell the good news. She said, “Rob, we don’t have to do things in secret anymore, I broke up with Phil.” But Rob didn’t like that, so after that they spend three weeks more, but he didn’t feel the same. He went through the third split up in his life. He felt free, but also uncomfortable at the same time. After Jackie broke up with Phil, to be free with Rob, He started thinking about how to get out of the relationship because he didn’t like her or feel anything for her anymore. Then when nobody likes each other anymore, Jackie went back to Phil; however, the relationship didn’t go back to the way they had been. Then on page 19 and 20 he finished the experience down saying, “In a few shorts weeks, mock-marital status had ceased to be something to aspire to, and had become a cause for scorn. At seventeen, we were becoming as angry and as unromantic as our parents.” Rob wants to keep the relationship in secret because he felt masculine or that was taboo and exciting.
In conclusion, Nick Hornby shows us how Rob learned to be selfish. Alison was selfish with him because she didn’t care about Rob’s feelings and she cheated on him. Then Rob didn’t care about the girl feelings, so he just wanted to obtain “sex.” He started to thinking about sex, but I think that sex in not the only good thing in a relation or in life. I believe in the love, feel security by the person who loved you, it is the only think that is important for me; not sex. So, Nick Hornby tells us that Rob learned valuables and important believes to be successful. He gained skills in each relationship and he was success in his last relation with a girl called Laura. I really wish that you could read the book because is so interesting and enjoyable, might you would feel identified with the actor, Rob. Might like him, you have been passing for the same situations. The book will help you, and you would learn from the different relations that Rob cruised in his life.

Album Review
Metallica: And Justice for All
By Michael Alvarado
Metallica is a rock band, which is composed by James Hetfield, (lead vocals, guitar), Lars Ulrich, (drums), Kirk Hammett, (Lead guitar), and Robert Trujillo, Bass guitar. In august 25th 1988, they wrote an album called And Justice for All, which was released on, One on One studio in Los Angeles California January May 1988. Before the record, James and his band released a very famous and popular record, called Master of Puppets. Those two records are very great and similar because both have this rhythmic power in almost all the songs. And their songs are very unique in their lyrics and their instruments are very awesome. They Albums are considering Trash Metal and Heavy Metal. That for the lovers of the Rock this is really the glory.
And Justice for All has nine songs. They’re all Rock songs same of them are really heavy and fasters with great power in very drums solo or guitar solo some of them are so relaxing at the beginning but in the middle they are a little pleasanter. This album make me feel like a Rock Star because when I heard it, my body refills with a strange feeling inside that make my body to jump and hit the air. I’m “moshing”, which is some kind of dancing on rock concerts, that is very famous for people who love enjoy the Rock concerts.
The album start, with a song called Blackened. This song describes the destruction of the earth by the habitants in there. It’s a great song that makes your body move like crazy and singing due if you don’t know the lyric. The next song has a great drum do at the beginning, followed by a great guitar that mixed make the most beautiful sound in the whole world. It’s called And Justice for All. It’s about how the “Lady Justice was raped” and loses her power in the world. The last song is called One. In it the drums are very excited too. This is started with an angelical and rhythmic guitar solo. This song is by for my favorite on the record. It’s absolutely a great song and the best of the record. It’s very fantastic and excited, simply in awesome. The songs are not about killing people or destroy you, something called subliminal messages; is all that the fans or music band people required to inspired to grow up in the music world.
And Justice for All is an Album waiting for James Hetfiel, following with his much acclaimed album called Master of Puppets. He wants to the best in this album, and the fans were waiting for it. But this new record; And Justice for All wasn’t more interesting than Master of Puppets album. It just is a record at list for star rating. The album begins with a lot of power by the song Blackened and continues stronger and faster. Almost every single song is awesome and faster with excellent sounds by each instrument and with the excellent work by the singer. This album keeps its style to the finish of it. In this album my three favorite songs are: Blackened, as the lyric says, “Blackened is the end Winter it will send” this song is about a kind of destruction or extinction of the planet air by many problems that we are crossing like in the lyrics” Opposition, contraction, Premonition, Compromise, agitation, violation, mutilation, ‘Planet dies’… Termination, expiration, cancellation, human race, expectation, liberation, population, lay to waste!!!” it talks about a possible excitation of the mother earth in to a big obscurity.
The next song is And Justice for All. This song relate how the justice in us country lose power as he says, “The ultimate is vanity, exploiting their supremacy, I can’t believe things you say, I can’t believe, I can’t believe the price you pay, nothing can save you”… and “Justice is lost, Justice is raped, justice is gone, pulling your find is so grim, so true, so real.” I thing is about the government, telling that everybody need justice why can expressed they feelings or believes because always the government what do you need to do or believe, they never tells you the truth or what is really happened in the society or in the wars. They always are painted in pretty picture to hide this problem. The lyric says, “Lady Justice has been raped by a truth assassin.” I think that “truth assassin” is the president or the governor, “Rolls of red tape seals you lips.”
The last one of the record is my favorite song called One. This song is very interesting and the video is awesome. It tells about veteran of the wars and that he was the only survivor of the second war and how he was fighting for his life because he doesn’t want to die. And they family and he on the hospital in his bed pray to God that helps him to wake up. This is my favorite because in song occasion in feeling in that way and I pray to God to help me to be better and never fail in a worst way. There is my favorite moment on the record Just tree songs that catch my attention not just for their awesome instrument and songs, also for the meaning of them.
All in are, I would give the album And Justice for All a very powerful and strong four and half-star rating. Everything in this album are fabulous; lyrics, music and absolutely interesting. I’m a great fan of this band and I would recommend this album to those entire people that just are beginning listen to rock music and to them that simply just need and inspiration to make their own music style. It’s a great album and excellent band to star thinking to be a rock star. This record will change your mind and the way that you listen to rock music.

Homeless Shelter
Do you know how many poor people habit in New York City? Almost the 45% of the population and anybody help them. I know that you are considering two proposals to improve the city and help this kind of people. You must choose between building a homeless shelter and building a shopping mall. This is an important decision because in our city exist a big percent of needy people who need help also this will benefit the financial capital of the state. I completely sure that building a homeless shelter is beneficial for New York City because it will provide jobs, improve community, and provide safety for the homeless.
Building a homeless shelter is good for New York City because it will increase jobs. First of all, a homeless shelter can provide an opportunity to work for construction workers. In order to build the shelter, we will need to hire many different workers. We need carpenters, engineers, plumbers, electricians, and printers. Currently unemployment rate is very high. Hiring people to build the shelter is going to lower it. Secondly, there are some homeless who need help from social workers. After finish school social workers will have a chance to find employment working in shelters. Finally building a homeless shelter will help to give chance for doctors and nurses works. Homeless people need medical attention, so doctors and nurses could offer services. A homeless shelter is another place but doctors and nurses can get a job. After their graduation from school they can find a job and stop been homeless. Secondly,, sex education can help homeless people; especially teenager how to take protection in their sexual life. The most popular mistake that teenagers do is having sex without protection because they didn’t have enough sexual education. These will prevent diseases such as Aids. Finally, financial education will teach them how to manage their money. Once they get out from the shelter homeless will be able to make financial decisions to manage they own bills for example paying rent. Homeless shelter can teach the homeless how to be prepared in the life out of the shelter.
To build a homeless shelter will lower the crime rate. First of all, should lower the drugs used. As we know, It is the most common problem on the New York streets. many people who used drugs are homeless, what the shelter will make is provide them something else to work on with and try to keep them busy for example working as cleaners in the shelter preventing the possibility to used drugs. Secondly a homeless shelter will decrease robberies. We know and see in the street that many on the criminal people are homeless teenagers who in order to survive, they learn to rob. Think in the wrong and dangerous way causes high percent of robberies; the homeless shelter is expected to help people to grow with right ideas in their minds such as, study and work hard about to be betters in life. Finally, the homeless shelter will lower murder. Homeless people are in risk to be killed because they don't have any place to sleep in or they are discriminated due smell so disgusting because they don't take a shower and building the shelter can offer safe places to live and decrease the murder rate. Crime rate has been considered for long time caused by homeless people and is time to help them and stop the crime rate, let's finished building the shelter.

Who are the most influential people in my life?
I have many people that could be my influences in life. Usually I pick family members, but in this case I want to change a little bit. I chose one person who is part of my family and people from the TV or musicians. Those persons have had a tremendous influence in my life and have taught me great things. Those persons are Henry my, cousin, Bam Margera, my favorite skater to follow, and the best one Lars Ulrich, my favorite drummer.
I picked my cousin Henry as my first influential person. He's that kind of person who helps everybody without wanting any gift in return. He's loyal and great son. That means is that he always is helping people as the best he can. He always is there for me. He helps me with my problems, feelings or when my mind is confused. He helps me due giving me advice, he said, “do not try drugs, always be loyal with old people, but especially be yourself, and you should never give up and always fight for that you want to have. This advice has been to me fighting for that I want to achieve. Also he shows me a way to see and follow this life by his examples. He most the time spend his time show me how the world is, and that thing that looks like gold, probably cannot be rights. I saw the big change in his life because I saw him get out from the shadows and grow up as person and be a person of light, not just for himself also for his parents, friends and especially for me. He was an evil angel that turn in a good angel. That is the reason why I feel so identified with my cousin Henry. He really helps me to be a better person, also the best cousin in my family.
Not only is my cousin an influence, so is Bam Margera my friends and I call him "the freakin' most excellent skater in the whole Element crew". I'm sure that Bam with his skating style, makes the young skaters go crazy. Then they try to do the awesome tricks that he does. Like, when he rides his board to be available to flip 360 degrees with a little cool rotation and finishing on a ramp, getting like four to five feet high with the enough time to do another excellent trick. Now I study his moves to performing my skills to improve my style skating like him. This influence me to be a pro skater, and to make my favorite tricks called, “varies kick flips and ollies.” Bam makes me feel so good and so excited about how he is with his parents. He always enjoys making jokes about his parents or fighting with them. When can I do that with my parents?; by watching his life on TV, give me a chance to see how to make my life interesting and entertainment at the same time. I like Bam's life style is so excited. I hope one especially day have a great family as him and do the great trick as well as he does.
Finally, my last and greatest influence is Lars Ulrich, the professional drummer from Metallica, one of my favorite rock bands. I definitely wish I could play drums like Lars and I hope to almost copy his style to play drums. For me, this guy is the best. When I saw him for first time, playing drums on videos, I just wanted to feel the music and the power of the drumsticks choking in a rhythmical and heavy rhythm that makes the strongest noise possible for enjoying the music. I remember well my first time seeing this band in a concert. It was so awesome, the best night in my whole life. That night was great because I saw Lars for first time playing his drums with faster moves and he makes that the people jump in a “cool” way called, mosh pit. That was really crazy, but awesome!; also that night was the birthday of Kirk Hammett, guitar player of the band. I'm waiting for their next concert here in NY at November. I'm so crazy about it, just waiting for the great day. Lars influenced me to start playing drums. I'm not so good, but I have his style and music in my mind and I am completely sure that I can play the drums like him or better. Currently, I practice it every time. I’m always practicing and imagining that I have a drums in front of me, when I walking, waiting for the train or the bus, and almost all the time in my house everywhere, but my especial place is on my bed. I just practice with the sticks in my bed because in my apartment doesn’t like noise. Also I like him because he has a good personality. As I saw in a video from YouTube, web site, when he was in Australia, he was running or doing exercises on the street then he stop for help an old girl to put their supermarket bags in the car. That shows me that he is so loyal and friendly with the people around him. He doesn't worry that the person watching him walking on the street. He’s so friendly with everybody. Lars influences me to start playing drums, and always be friendly.
In conclusion, I'm feel so happy to have excellent examples as influence for my. One of good ones was my cousin Henry. His teachings, was the best examples for my life because I saw it first hand. The other ones also show me great things and I wish be as them but for the most favorites that they be for me, anyone can show me that my cousins did.

I can't see as I'm facing your pityful lies
Don't have the strength to carry your heavy load of life
I'm your christ to die on you
I just woke up for hers and you know it as well as I do
Don't have the strength to carry your heavy load of life
I'm your christ to die on you
I just woke up for hers and you know it as well as I do

This is the best of my favorite songs, because I sang it with my ex special girlfriend wooow she plays the piano like Elton John. That moment was great. Every single Saturday we sang this fabulous song by Guns N' Roses.
When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain
We've been through this
Such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain
Yeahh..
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain
We've been through this
Such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain
Yeahh..

I love this song so much when in 1992 Jason was on vocal. This is my favorite video. Also I love it because Lars Ulrich doing a great job playing the drums. omg!! is my influence to follow.
Alright!
We are scanning the scene
in the city tonight
We're looking for you
to start up a fight
There's an evil feeling in our brains
But it's nothing new
you know it drives us insane
Running,
On our way
Hiding,
You will pay
Dying,
One thousand deaths
We are scanning the scene
in the city tonight
We're looking for you
to start up a fight
There's an evil feeling in our brains
But it's nothing new
you know it drives us insane
Running,
On our way
Hiding,
You will pay
Dying,
One thousand deaths

This song always had been my favorite song. I listened this song when my mother was pregnant with me inside of her.
Ah, keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel
Keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel
Yeah, we're goin' to the roadhouse
Gonna have a real
A good time
Yeah, back at the roadhouse they got some bungalows
Yeah, back at the roadhouse they got some bungalows
And that's for the people
Who like to go down slow
Keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel
Yeah, we're goin' to the roadhouse
Gonna have a real
A good time
Yeah, back at the roadhouse they got some bungalows
Yeah, back at the roadhouse they got some bungalows
